From the Editor

Welcome to the de-extinction topic! We at Champion Briefs are excited to help guide you through a resolution that, for once, comes with its own dire wolves. Unlike Jurassic Park, this brief was built with strict containment protocols. We looked at the topic from all angles so that debaters can find an argument that fits any style of debate. Our standard was simple: if a card cannot survive scrutiny, it does not get out of the lab. Through our rigorous process we've created a brief that is ready for any round you throw at it. Life, uh, finds a way, and now so will your 1AR. I will confess that when I first read "Resolved: De-extinction is unethical," I assumed I would spend two months listening to arguments about mammoths counting the days until the topic itself went extinct. Then I read the literature and found colonial history, virtue ethics, reparations, and a company that named its wolves after a TV show. The topic did not change; I just finally read past the headline. So before you declare something boring and extinct, look a little closer. Ideas, like dire wolves, have a way of coming back. Good luck to you all! Daniel Shatzkin Editor-in-Chief
